A shirt is a sort of top, i.e. a piece of clothing for the trunk of the body. Shirts are available pleated, unpleated, with several different types of collars and cuffs, a variety of colors, and may come with or without studs. In the UK, it refers most often to what Americans call a dress shirt or tailored shirt, i.e., a garment with a collar, cuffs, and a full vertical opening with buttons. In the US it tends to have a vaguer meaning, being applied to many types of (mainly men`s) tops, leaving the word "top" generally for ladies-wear.

More India and China suppliers will offer polo shirts that cater to the high-end market in the coming year. India makers are developing polo shirts made of fabric that weighs about 240gsm comes with a mercerized finish and is yarn-dyed. Some high-end models will feature embroidery, appliquΓ© or engineered striped patterns. Polo shirts made of fabric blended with modal or viscose will also be offered.

In China, more companies are launching higher-priced designs made of 100 percent combed cotton or a blend of cotton and quick-dry polyester or spandex. New designs will also feature reactive-dyed fabric and azo-free dyestuff. The more expensive printed and embroidered models will also have sweat- and wrinkle-resistant properties.
