SherwaniThe timeless appeal of this elegant wedding attire attains perfection with our superb fits and rich fabrics, embellished with embroidery inspired by the diverse cultures of India. Sherwani is a long coat-like garment worn by men, very similar to an achkan. It is worn over the Shalwar Kameez. The origins of the sherwani are unclear, but it was associated with the court of the Nizam of Hyderabad prior to the Independence. It is the national dress of Pakistan for men, as it is not specifically associated with any of the provinces. Most government officials wear the formal Black sherwani on state occasions. This sherwani coat fits close to the body, fastened in the front with buttons, and extends to slightly below knee-length. Sherwanis are usually embroidered or detailed in some way. Many Pakistani grooms wear them at their weddings. The sherwani is named after the Sherwani family, a large muslim family of mixed arab and pakhtoon descent who are settled mainly around the Aligarh (UP) and Malerkotla (Punjab) areas in India.
